Passenger Killed In Crash After Driver Flees Police In Concord

A 22-year-old woman has died of the personal injuries she suffered after a chase with North Carolina troopers ended with a fiery crash.

According to reports from multiple media outlets, Jasmine Wright was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash that took place in Concord on the night of January 8.

The Highway Patrol said that Wright was a passenger in a vehicle troopers attempted to pull over on Interstate 485 in Mecklenburg County.

According to troopers, they began to chase Keyone Joel after clocking his speed at 82 mph. He reportedly drove at a speed of at least 100 mph during the ensuing chase.

When Joel turned onto another road, the vehicle hit an incline, overturned, hit a ditch, and collided with a tree. He received air transport to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

Troopers do not believe alcohol to have been a factor.
