One Teen Hit By Vehicle On Durant Road Dies, Other Upgraded To Good Condition
One of the teenage girls who suffered personal injuries after being struck by a car while crossing Durant Road in Raleigh on March 26 has been upgraded to good condition, according to a statement from hospital officials the following day. However, the other girl involved in the accident died of her injuries.
The girl who survived was identified as 13-year-old Krista Carcaterra. The deceased was identified as 14-year-old Lindsey Fesmire. Both were students at Durand Road Middle School.
The girls were struck by a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Wilson resident Ronald Blackwell. According to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue, no charges are expected to be filed against Blackwell.
According to police, the girls were crossing the street after leaving the Bojangles’ restaurant located on the road, a popular hangout for students at the middle school. They were hit by Blackwell’s vehicle shortly before reaching the other side, near the entrance of the Anson Grove subdivision.
