One Killed, Two Injured In N.C. 33 Crash

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says that a man from Grimesland has died of the personal injuries he suffered in a February 5 head-on collision on N.C. 33.

According to Trooper J.P. Howard, 74-year-old Cecil McDaniel Brinson was westbound on N.C. 33 in a Toyota pickup truck in heavy rain when he crossed the center line near the Dixon Road intersection approximately 3.7 miles east of Chocowinity. The truck collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge SUV shortly after 7 p.m. The truck stopped in the road and the SUV went through a ditch before stopping.

The driver and a passenger in the SUV suffered injuries in the crash. Both 43-year-old Shauna Moody and 56-year-old Clyde Johnson received transport to Beaufort County Medical Center in Washington, N.C. They were released over the following weekend after undergoing treatment, according to a statement from a hospital spokeswoman on February 7.

Howard said there was no evidence of hydroplaning at the scene and the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
