A 78-year-old man died of the personal injuries he suffered in a three-vehicle crash in Dunn on November 20, and more charges are pending, according to North Carolina State Troopers.
Roy English received transport to WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was later pronounced dead. His 76-year-old wife, Robbie English, was listed in critical condition as of November 22.
Troopers say the car the couple was traveling in was struck at Highways 55 and 242 by a Dodge pickup truck around noon. Another vehicle then struck the couple’s vehicle and the truck caught fire.
State Troopers have charged 26-year-old Benson resident Joseph Bayfden with running a stop sign, the cause of the crash. Troopers say alcohol and speed were not factors.
Bayfden and his 3-year-old son also received transport to WakeMed. Two other passengers in the Englishes’ vehicle and the occupants of the third vehicle were not injured.
Troopers say they plan to meet with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office regarding further charges.
