One Killed, Seven Injured When Dance Team Van Crashes En Route To Durham
Virginia State Police say that one person died and seven others suffered personal injuries when a van transporting a Temple University dance team to a competition in Durham, North Carolina crashed on Interstate 85 in southern Virginia.
According to police, 21-year-old Lansdale, Pennsylvania resident Kammini Ragoopath was killed on February 27 after the van ran off the highway and struck a guardrail in Dinwiddie County. Another passenger, 20-year-old Fatima Pervaiz, received air transport to a hospital in Richmond with serious injuries.
The driver and five other passengers received transport to a hospital in Petersburg with minor injuries.
Police charged the driver, 20-year-old Cranford, New Jersey resident Bilal Badruddin, with reckless driver.
At the time of the crash, the van was transporting the Temple University Bhangra dance team to Durham for a competition.
