The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that a man from Orrum suffered fatal personal injuries in a single-vehicle accident on June 22 on Interstate 95.
According to the report Trooper W.A. Richardson filed, the accident took place in the northbound lanes of I-95 less than a mile south of St. Pauls shortly after 11 p.m.
The report said that the driver, 27-year-old Justin Craig Walters, received air transport to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to the report, Walters was traveling in a Toyota passenger car when it ran off the road into the median. Walters overcorrected and the vehicle ran off the road to the right, hit an embankment, and collided with a concrete bridge support at the overpass of Morgan J Road.
A passenger in the vehicle, 37year-old Fairmont resident Ricky Gainey, received transport to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for the personal injuries he suffered. His condition was not immediately made available.
The report said that both men were wearing their seat belts and the air bags on the vehicle deployed.
