One Injured When Boat Collides With Bridge On N.C. Coast
At least one person suffered personal injuries when a boat collided with a high-rise bridge on the North Carolina coast.
According to a report from The Daily News of Jacksonville, three people were on board a boat that struck a piling on the bridge between Atlantic Beach and Morehead City at approximately 5 p.m. on November 17.
The Atlantic Beach Fire Department said that one of the occupants of the 20-foot boat required air transport to a hospital for treatment. The names of the people aboard the boat have yet to be released.
According to Coast Guard Ensign Caleb Peacock, a helicopter and rescue boat were sent by the Coast Guard. Emergency personnel also worked from the top of the bridge.
Police said that one lane on the bridge had to be closed to allow room for emergency crews to work, but no damage was inflicted on the bridge and it remained open to traffic.
