One Dead, Two Injured In Three-Vehicle Crash In Fayetteville

Fayetteville police said 86-year-old Red Springs resident Herman Douglas died after the pickup truck he was driving was struck by a white GMC van at the intersection of Village Drive and Owen Drive and overturned.

Authorities responded to the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m. and found Douglas dead, having been partially ejected from the vehicle. The truck's frame was visibly split at the midsection.

Police said Douglas was southbound on Owen Driven when the GMC, owned by Professional Care Home Oxygen, located a block away from the scene of the crash. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Fayetteville resident Curtis Cahoon.

After overturning multiple times, the truck collided with a white Chevrolet Suburban that was stopped at the light. The truck finally came to rest on its side near the southwest corner of the intersection, police said. The Suburban's driver was identified as 27-year-old Fayetteville resident Venus Taumanupepe.

Police said Cahoon and Taumanupepe suffered minor injuries.
