One Dead, Two Injured In Head-On Collision In Wake County
On the night of March 10, a 24-year-old woman from Wendell died and two other people suffered personal injuries in a head-on collision in northeastern Wake County.
According to a March 11 statement from a North Carolina Highway Patrol spokeswoman, 24-year-old Amanda Lee Denton was a passenger in a 1991 Honda driven by 26-year-old Raleigh resident Derrick Connell Lewis.
Denton died in the crash. Lewis and 54-year-old Raleigh resident Mary Alice Bizzell received transport to WakeMed in Raleigh, where they were listed in good condition.
Bizzell was driving a 2001 Ford van that collided with the Honda, according to the NCHP spokeswoman.
According to Sgt. G.M. Powell, the Honda was westbound on Buffaloe Road around 9:30 p.m. and crossed the center line before colliding head-on with the eastbound van. Denton was not wearing her seat belt.
Powell said the crash remains under investigation.
