One Dead, Two Injured In Crash Near Lumberton

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that one woman died and two others suffered personal injuries on November 21 when their car ran off Tarheel Road near N.C. 41 near Lumberton.

A report filed by Trooper M.D. Locklear said the accident took place shortly after 4 a.m.

The report said that 27-year-old St. Pauls resident Orlene Robinson was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi east at an estimated rate of 85 mph when she lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road to the left, traveled through a bean field, and struck a tree in front of a residence on Tarheel Road.

The front seat passenger, 24-year-old Lumberton resident Rosa Tiffany McLeod, died in the crash.

Robinson and 23-year-old Lorraine Moneek Carter, a back seat passenger whose residence is the same as McLeod’s, received air transport to hospitals in Chapel Hill and Durham. Information on their conditions was not immediately available.

The report said none of the women were wearing seat belts.
