One woman died and three others suffered personal injuries on April 24 in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Halifax County.
According to North Carolina state troopers, a 2005 Jeep Liberty was heading south near mile-marker 162 when it swerved toward the center. The driver overcorrected, causing the Jeep to run off the right side of the road and into the woods.
Authorities say 70-year-old Fall River, Massachusetts resident Joann K. Bouchard was killed instantly. The driver, 71-year-old Westport, Massachusetts resident Almerinda Tenchara, and two passengers sustained serious injuries.
Tenchara received transport to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where her condition was not known as of April 25. Also taken to Pitt Memorial was 74-year-old West Port, Massachusetts resident Claudette Bison. Her condition was also not available as of April 25.
Another passenger, 63-year-old Fall River resident Beverly Oliveira received transport to Duke University Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition on April 25.
Tenchara faces one charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Troopers say the crash occurred shortly before noon and traffic was backed up for nearly two hours.
