One Dead, One Seriously Injured In Durham Collision

Police say that one person died and another suffered serious personal injuries in a head-on collision on Hillsborough Road in Durham.

The accident took place shortly after 1:30 a.m. near Bellevue Avenue when a Chevrolet Corsica that was traveling east crossed the center line and collided with a Nissan Sentra driven west by 23-year-old Durham resident Yonsy Balmore-Campos, according to Durham police.

Police said the Corsica’s driver, whose name has not yet been released, died at the scene. Balmore-Campos received transport to Duke University Hospital and was listed in serious condition.

The Nissan was in the proper lane at the time of the crash, but Balmore-Campos was charged with driving while impaired, possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and driving without a license.
