A man from Winston-Salem died and another person suffered personal injuries early on the morning of June 6 when their vehicle collided with an unoccupied building in Winston-Salem.
According to police, 41-year-old Winston-Salem resident Christopher Caviness was the driver of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 20-year-old Winston-Salem resident Erica Brown received transport to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
At about 2:30 a.m. on June 6, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputy spotted two vehicles quickly traveling south on N. Liberty Street. He lost sight of the vehicles and attempted to catch up with them when he saw that one had crashed into an unoccupied building along the street.
Police cite speed as a factor, but have not determined if alcohol was a factor. The death is the seventh traffic fatality in Winston-Salem in 2010.
