One Dead, One Injured, One Charged With DWI In Smithfield Crash

One person is dead, one is in critical condition from personal injuries suffered, and a third has been charged with driving while impaired after a September 26 accident in Smithfield involving a motorcycle and car, according to authorities.

The man who died in the crash, which took place shortly before 7 p.m., was identified by Smithfield police as 43-year-old Four Oaks resident Gary Wayne Greenwaldt. He was driving the motorcycle, police said.

The Harley Davidson’s passenger, 35-year-old Wayne County resident Rebecca Ann Tilley, was transported to WakeMed in critical condition, authorities said.

Police identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as 49-year-old Smithfield resident Keith McClain. He was arrested on a charge of DWI.

Further details were not immediately made available and police continue to investigate the crash.
