One Dead, One Injured In Collision Between Flatbed Trucks In Granville County
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that one man suffered fatal personal injuries early on the morning of February 15 in an accident on northbound Interstate 85 in Granville County.
Authorities said that a flatbed tractor-trailer hauling steel rebar crashed into the rear of a flatbed tractor-trailer hauling bags of cement mix shortly after 4 a.m. near mile marker 199.
According to authorities, the driver of the truck transporting rebar, 59-year-old Dallas, North Carolina resident Stefan Williams III, died when pieces of his cargo smashed through the cab of his truck.
The other’s truck’s driver, Orangeburg, South Carolina resident Herbert Robinson, received transport to Granville Medical Center to undergo treatment for minor injuries.
Authorities cited speed as a factor in the collision, which resulted in one lane of northbound I-85 being closed for eight hours.
