Police said a man from Aberdeen suffered fatal personal injuries on the night of February 14 after a head-on collision on Saunders Boulevard in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen Police Department Deputy Chief Jim Foster said that 42-year-old William John Anderson received air transport to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, but was later pronounced dead there.
The accident took place around 10 p.m. as Anderson was approaching a bridge over railroad tracks near Guilford Street while traveling north in a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. While traveling across the bridge, he swerved left and the truck grazed the concrete guardrail and crossed the center line.
The truck collided head-on with a 2007 Hummer H3 driven by 33-year-old Pinehurst resident Joseph Watts.
Foster said Anderson was pinned inside his truck. The cause of Anderson swerving is unknown.
Watts sustained minor injuries and was released from FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital after receiving treatment.
