One person suffered fatal personal injuries on November 5 in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of South May Street and Morganton Road, according to police in Southern Pines.
An accident report filed by Officer J.S. Perry said the crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m.
The report said 36-year-old Southern Pines resident John Douglas McDonald was southbound in a 2000 Jeep when the vehicle crossed the center line, struck a utility pole, spun 180 degrees, collided with a tree, and finally came to rest on the driver’s side.
The report said McDonald was traveling at an estimated rate of speed of 55 mph in a 45 mph zone at the time of the accident.
