One Dead In Accident Near Spring Lake

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the 23-year-old driver in a single-vehicle accident near Spring Lake on March 19 was pronounced dead of the personal injuries he suffered at Womack Army Medical Center.

Highway Patrol Trooper B.J. Holden said that 23-year-old North Augusta, South Carolina resident Ivan Leon Ramos was ejected from the 1998 Chevrolet S10 Blazer he was driving. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Holder said alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle, 40-year-old Leon Florez, of the same address as Ramos, received transport to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and was released after treatment.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on the day of the accident, Ramos was northbound on N.C. Highway 87 when the SUV ran off the left side of the road before Ramos pulled it back onto the road. The vehicle crossed over the road and ran off the right side. When Ramos attempted to corrected again, the vehicle rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its roof.
