North Carolina state troopers said that an automobile accident in Edgecombe County at about midnight on April 6 left one person dead and two others with critical personal injuries.
Troopers said that 26-year-old Pinetops resident David Corbet was speeding along N.C. Highway 111 between Pinetops and Tarboro when a Chevrolet Impala pulled out of a driveway in front of him. Corbet attempted to swerve, but T-boned the vehicle.
The Impala's driver, 21-year-old Pinetops resident Kendrick Diggins, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Two Impala passengers, 19-year-old Tarboro resident Quarterius Draughn and 20-year-old Pinetops resident Prince Taylor, were listed in critical condition at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Corbet, his passenger, 25-year-old Greenville resident Leon Arcila, and a third occupant of the Impala, 23-year-old Pinetops resident Teyon Belcher, received transport to Heritage Hospital in Tarboro. Their conditions were not immediately made available.
Troopers said all of the occupants of the Impala had been drinking and none were wearing seat belts.
Troopers said they would consult the Edgecombe County District Attorney about possible charges.
