NCHP Seeking Driver In Fatal Lumberton Hit-And-Run

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is seeking the driver of a vehicle that struck and caused fatal personal injuries to a pedestrian on Regan Church Road in Lumberton on the night of September 10. The driver then fled the scene.

Trooper Matt Locklear said that 48-year-old Lumberton resident Mona Kay Locklear died shortly before 11:30 p.m. after being struck.

According to Locklear’s report, the vehicle was southbound on Regan Church Road and ran off the road to the right. The vehicle re-entered the road, but the driver overcorrected and the vehicle ran off the road to the left.

The vehicle, which is reported to be a burgundy-colored pickup truck, struck several mailboxes before hitting Mona Locklear, who had been walking in the grass on the northbound shoulder at the time.

The report said Mona Locklear died at the scene.
