NCHP Charges Man For Crash That Killed Passenger

Troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol say they have charged Isaac Sylvester Maynard Jr. with DWI in connection to an April 17 crash in McLeansville he caused involving fatal personal injuries.

According to a police report, Maynard was traveling at a high rate of speed along U.S. 70 in an Oldsmobile Bravada when he ran off the road, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and ran off the road shortly after midnight. The vehicle hit a culvert and a driveway and overturned multiple times.

A passenger in Maynard’s vehicle, 34-year-old Greensboro resident Angela Cheek, was ejected during the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maynard and another passenger received transport to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police charged Maynard with DWI, obstruction, resist, and delay for interfering with the treatment of the deceased at the scene and for issuing threats to EMS personnel.

Further charges may be filed after the district attorney’s office reviews the incident.
