On the morning of February 25, a North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper suffered personal injuries when a car ran off the road and collided with his patrol car along Interstate 77 in Surry County.

According to authorities, the trooper, who was not immediately identified, was doing paperwork in his vehicle shortly after 11 a.m. after issuing a citation to another motorist. Surry EMS director John Shelton said that a passenger car ran off the road and rear-ended the trooper’s car.

Two passengers in the car received transport to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin for treatment for their injuries. The trooper received transport to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. None of the injuries suffered in the crash are believed to be life-threatening.

No immediate word has been made about whether charges will be filed. The vehicle’s driver has not been identified.
