Nash County Woman Dies In Head-On Collision On Own Street
North Carolina state troopers said that a woman from Nash County suffered fatal personal injuries on the evening of March 23 following a head-on collision that took place on the same road where she lives.
The NCHP said that 68-year-old Spring Hope resident Ernest William Tyska was eastbound on Bend of the River Road near N.C. Highway 58 at about 5:15 p.m. when he crossed the center line. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving collided head-on with a 1996 Dodge Caravan driven by 31-year-old Alma Rosa Lopez.
Lopez received hospital transport, but was pronounced dead in transit. Tyska received hospital treatment for broken bones.
Troopers have not yet determined what caused the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Troopers said they would consult with the Nash County District Attorney's Office before any charges would be filed.
