Nash County Deputy Injured In Wreck
North Carolina state troopers said that a Nash County Sheriff's deputy suffered personal injuries in a wreck on March 23.
Sheriff Dick Jenkins said that Deputy Charles Baker was on his way to provide assistance to a call regarding shots fired on Driver Road in Middlesex when he lost control of the cruiser he was driving on N.C. Highway 97, near N.C. Highway 581 south of Spring Hope.
The car struck a utility pole, snapping it in half. The downed pole required troopers to reroute traffic until the pole could be repaired and the highway cleared.
Baker received transport to Nash General Hospital. No updates were available on his condition. A K-9 in the vehicle with him at the time was unharmed.
According to Jenkins, Deputy Ray Lynch, the deputy Baker was on his way to assist, was recuperating at home from a shoulder injury and a bite wound sustained during a confrontation with suspects in the shots fired call.
