A Mount Airy woman who suffered personal injuries in a July 5 motorcycle accident has now died of those injuries, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
According to a report filed by Trooper J.L. Martin, 40-year-old Gina Leann Jones sustained massive head trauma and died on July 22.
The report said that Jones was a passenger on a motorcycle operated by 49-year-old Mount Airy resident Dale Allen Trenter. They were westbound on U.S. 74 near the Scotland-Rockingham county line when the accident occurred.
According to the report, Jones is believed to have fallen asleep and fallen against Trenter’s back, causing him to lose control of the 2004 Harley Davidson. The bike overturned, ejecting both occupants.
According to Jones’ obituary in the Mount Airy newspaper, she was pronounced dead at a hospital in Charlotte.
