Mother Of 2-Year-Old Dog Bite Victim Arrested

According to Lt. Scott Peebles of the Richmond County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office, the mother of a 10-year-old child who suffered personal injuries from dog bites has been arrested.

The Sheriff’s Office arrested Jessica Lynn Chavous at approximately 12:30 p.m. on July 14 and charged her with 2nd Degree Cruelty to Children. She was placed in Richmond County Jail without bond.

The cruelty charge comes from a dog attack on July 10 at Chavous’ Augusta, Georgia home. On the day of the incident, Chavous left her 2-year-old son, Damien Chavous, unattended and he climbed into a neighbor’s back yard, where the attack occurred.

As of July 14, Damien Chavous was still listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

Georgia’s WJBF News Channel 6 learned that Shirley Barnes, the owner of the dogs involved in the incident, is in court in Aiken County, South Carolina.
