Mother And Daughter Killed In Mount Olive Accident

On October 5, a mother and daughter suffered fatal personal injuries after a log-hauling truck struck their car near the intersection of U.S. Highway 117 and Main Street in Mount Olive, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The intersection the fatal crash occurred at is one that has concerned neighbors for decades.

One neighbor who wished to remain anonymous said, “A lot of people just don’t look. They don’t pay attention.”

The accident took place around 2 p.m.

According to troopers, 73-year-old Mary Jones pulled into the path of the truck. She and her passenger, her 90-year-old mother Mary Smith, were killed instantly.

Trooper Bryan Leonard said that the truck’s driver tried everything possible to avoid the collision. He sustained minor injuries in the crash.
