A woman from Mooresville received transport to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on April 9 after her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer on Garner Bagnal Boulevard at Salisbury Road in Statesville.
Darlene Browning was taken by helicopter to the hospital after initially being taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, according to Statesville Police Officer Ben Hardy, the investigating officer.
According to Hardy, Browning, in a vehicle also occupied by her three grandchildren, was trying to turn left from Garner Banal Boulevard to Salisbury Road. She had stopped to wait for westbound traffic to clear when she was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer driven by Texas resident Thomas Wilson.
Browning’s vehicle was forced into the westbound lane by the impact, causing her to collide with the rear wheel of a passing tractor-trailer.
According to Hardy, Browning and her grandchildren all received transport to IMH. The grandchildren suffered scratches and bruises, but her condition was not known.
Wilson was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
