A six-car accident occurred on MLK Parkway in Wilmington.
Witness Karl Deweese stated he saw a white vehicle go airborne.
Police stated a white Subaru Outback, with four passengers was speeding down MLK Parkway towards Wrightsville Beach.
A witness stated it might have been in excess of 100 miles per hour. At the intersection of Kerr Avenue and MLK the Subaru ran a red light, striking a white pick-up truck.
A passenger in the Subaru was killed and four others, including the driver of the pick-up to the hospital in critical condition.
The collision involved four other vehicles.
According to a report, the Subaru had been reported stolen in Wilmington on October 3.
Names of the deceased and injured were not released.
The accident is being investigated by Wilmington Police reconstruction teams.
