Millions Awarded to Construction Worker

A Brooklyn construction worker was struck by a Verizon truck near his home nearly four years ago. A jury awarded Matthew Falcone $40 million for his damages. The verizon truck was going 50 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone and hit him and he was left with brain damage and partially paralyzed. Mr. Falcone was left in a coma for weeks and was not expected to remain alive.

Verizon tried to argue that Falcone was at fault when he "stuck his head out into the road from behind an elevated train pillar" and that only a side-view mirror struck him. But the jury saw "photos of the truck's shattered windshield and headlights, which indicated the collision was much more severe." Verizon may appeal the decision.
