Maxton Man Killed When Car Collides With Wrecked Truck
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that early on September 4, a woman crashed into a wrecked pickup truck on N.C. 71, causing a man to suffer fatal personal injuries.
According to a report filed by Trooper S.C. Hunt, the accident took place shortly after midnight, approximately two miles north of Maxton at the McGirt Road intersection.
The report said that 58-year-old Maxton resident Gerald Summerlin had been involved in a collision with another vehicle several minutes earlier. He and the other driver were in the road directing traffic around their vehicles when a southbound 1985 Mercedes Benz collided with Summerlin’s Ford pickup truck.
The Benz was driven at a rate of approximately 40 mph by 28-year-old Wagram resident Katina Brayboy. The impact knocked Summerlin’s truck into him.
No one else was injured in the crash.
