Marion Man Dead In U.S. 221 Crash

North Carolina state troopers were still attempting to piece together evidence on the afternoon of December 22 while trying to determine the cause of a crash in which a man from Marion sustained fatal personal injuries.

At around 1:30 p.m., 39-year-old Randall Erbie Towe was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on U.S. 221 North.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper A.G. Biddix said witnesses said Towe was northbound in a Ford pickup truck when he went across all five lanes before running off the road and down an embankment before colliding with a dumpster and a billboard pole.

It took emergency crews between 35 and 40 minutes to extract Towe from the wreckage using power tools. He was pronounced dead shortly after his extraction.
