Man Suffers Broken Neck In I-40 Hit-And-Run

According to authorities, a man suffered personal injuries in a crash on Interstate 40 near Harrison Avenue in Raleigh.

One driver fled the scene after the crash and the other required hospitalization at Wake Med for a broken neck.

According to 49-year-old Jimmy Brown, he doesn’t remember what happened after his Geo Prizm was struck by a silver Lexus early on the morning of December 27.

Authorities believe the Lexus’ driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before rear-ending Brown’s vehicle. Brown said the driver was going so fast that he had no time to get out of the way and could only brace for the impact. He said the last thing he remembered was saying to himself, “oh no,” before waking up on a stretcher.

According to doctors, Brown’s neck was fractured and he will likely have to wear a neck brace for quite a while.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
