Man Pleads Guilty Over Fatal Raleigh Accident

A man at the wheel of a car that caused a Raleigh Waffle House waitress to sustain fatal personal injuries in an accident on May 2009 pleaded guilty on June 1 to felony death by motor vehicle.

On June 1, 38-year-old Chad Rodman was sentenced to a prison sentence of 20-33 months in Wake County Superior Court.

On May 13, 2009, 76-year-old Betty Mathis Moody died on U.S. Highway 401 in Wake Forest when Rodman’s car crossed the center line and struck her vehicle, according to investigators.

According to court testimony, at the time, Rodman was taking medications for pain and depression and was under the influence of some of those medications on the morning of the fatal wreck.

Moody, whom regulars at the Hillsborough Street Waffle House referred to as “Miss Betty,” worked the “bar rush” shift. She was just leaving work and was on her way home at the time of the accident.
