
According to police, a speeding motorist near downtown Raleigh suffered fatal personal injuries on the morning of October 27 when his vehicle ran off the road.
The name of the man, who has been described as being in his 40s and residing in Raleigh, has yet to be released by investigators.
According to police spokeswoman Laura Hourigan, the single-vehicle crash took place shortly before 3 a.m. near the intersection of East Martin Street and Merrywood Drive.
The man was driving at a “high rate of speed” and lost control of his 2000 Lincoln. The vehicle collided with a street sign before also colliding with a tree.
Hourigan said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports of the man fleeing police at the time of the crash have not been confirmed.
