Man Killed In I-95 Crash Near Smithfield

According to Johnston County sheriff’s deputies, a single-vehicle crash near Smithfield on August 5 resulted in one man dying of the personal injuries he suffered and traffic along Interstate 95 being delayed.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Dusty Fowler, the driver of the vehicle involved, died after his vehicle ran off the road near mile-marker 97 at approximately 7:30 p.m.

According to troopers, at the time of the accident, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, struck an abandoned parked vehicle, hit an embankment, and collided with a tree.

For a short period after the wreck occurred, all of I-95’s northbound lanes were closed.
