A man who suffered fatal personal injuries in an automobile accident on Maxwell Road in Fayetteville on August 12 in which his car struck a tree at high speed and broke into three pieces has been identified by the North Carolina Highway Patrol as 22-year-old Fayetteville resident Joseph David Hartmeyer.
Trooper W.C. Townsend’s accident report said that Hartmeyer was pronounced dead at the scene around 1:14 a.m. near Wade-Stedman Road.
According to the report, Hartmeyer was northbound in an Acura at an estimate rate of speed of 110 mph shortly before the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. He overcorrected and the car ran off the left side of the road, hit a ditch, and overturned before the collision with the tree.
