Police in Burlington said that a man that sustained personal injuries to his head after falling from a moving vehicle was attempting to hold down mattresses on the roof of the vehicle.

According to police, 48-year-old Timothy Lee Walker struck his head and was found lying in the street by officers who responded to the scene at North Ireland Street and Virginia Avenue on February 15.

Police said that Walker fell from a 1996 Ford Explorer when the driver, 42-year-old Stella Thomas, rounded a curve and the mattresses slid off the roof.

Walker received helicopter transport to a hospital in Chapel Hill. Police did not have updates on his condition immediately available.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
