Man Flees After Charlotte Crash, Leaving Injured Girlfriend Trapped

According to police, a driver fled the scene after a crash in Charlotte, leaving his girlfriend, who suffered personal injuries when the car collided with a pole, trapped inside the vehicle.

Officers say the man was driving along the outer loop of Interstate 277 at approximately 3 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle near the Kenilworth Avenue exit. The car ran off the road, knocked down a DOT camera pole, and then spun several times. The driver fled, but was found running down the interstate.

Police say the driver’s bleeding girlfriend had to be cut out of the car. Both received hospital transport and are expected to be ok.

Officers have said that the driver is to be charged with DWI.
