A man who suffered personal injuries as a result of being shot while visiting a bar in Belleville, Illinois has filed suit against the business.
According to the suit he filed on January 26 in Illinois’ St. Clair County Circuit Court, Jared Hawkins was a patron at Blackmon’s on December 25 when another man, who was intoxicated from beverages he had been served at the establishment, attacked and shot him just after 3 a.m.
Hawkins claims that the attack caused him to incur medical bills and experience severe injury, pain, disfigurement, and lost enjoyment of life.
The suit claims that Johnnie Blackmon, the owner of the business, owned several other area nightclubs and should have been aware of other instances of violence in the area.
The suit alleges negligence on the part of Blackmon for failure to provide adequate security personnel, violation of several municipal safety ordinances, failure to properly train security staff, and failure to provide reasonable security through allowing a patron to bring a gun through metal detectors.
Hawkins seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs, from the two-count suit.
