Man Faces Additional Charges In High Point Scooter Crash That Claimed Pregnant Woman And Child
Two weeks after a scooter wreck involving fatal personal injuries, a man is now faced with additional charges.
After a crashing a scooter in High Point on March 27, 57-year-old Jerry Lee Phillips was initially charged with DWI.
According to investigators, Phillips had a pregnant passenger, 30-year-old Crystal Grimes, aboard the scooter he was driving. He ran off Triangle Lake Road and hit a culvert.
Grimes and Phillips both received transport to High Point Regional Hospital. Grimes, who was 25 weeks pregnant, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The baby was delivered at the hospital, but later died.
In addition to the DWI, Phillips is now faced with two charges of felony death by motor vehicle.
