Man Dies In Fayetteville Crash

Police say that a Fayetteville man died of the personal injuries he suffered in a single-vehicle crash on Eastern Boulevard in Fayetteville on the morning of March 8.

According to police, Mark Wayne Mayr was northbound in a white 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt on the South Eastern Boulevard service road, between N.C. Highway 87 and Owen Drive, at approximately 9:45 p.m. when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road before coming back across the road, crossing the median, and running into a ditch on the side of the road.

A helicopter was brought in to transport Mayr to UNC Hospitals, but police say he died during the flight.

As of later that afternoon, police had not yet determined the cause of the crash.
