Man Claims He Was Fired For Filing For Workers' Comp

A former employee of Jackson Homes, Inc. has filed suit against the company, claiming that he was wrongfully fired for filing a workers’ compensation claim after he suffered personal injuries while working.

According to the suit Alan Jakul Jr. filed in Illinois’ St. Clair County Circuit Court, he suffered injuries while working on December 26.

The suit says Jakul then notified the company he would be filing for workers’ compensation benefits and exercise his right to request medical treatment at the company’s expense. The company’s insurance company authorized that medical treatment.

However, Jakul alleges that on the same day he asserted his benefits claim, he was discharged.

Jakul claims he has been deprived of lawful employment, lost income and benefits, including wages, pension, and/or health care benefits, and suffered injury to his reputation and mental anguish.

Jakul seeks compensatory damages of more than $50,000 and punitive damages of more than $50,000.
