
A Raleigh man has been charged by police for allegedly attempting to inflict fatal personal injuries on his girlfriend by intentionally driving his car into an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
The incident occurred on the night of May 4 near the intersection of Sawmill Road and Longstreet Drive in Raleigh.
Police charged 27-year-old Raleigh resident Andrian Bermel Edwards with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and misdemeanor child abuse.
According to police, Edwards and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument and he steered the Acura he was driving into the path of an oncoming Ford Expedition driven by 70-year-old Julia Murphy Raynor.
Raynor was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh where she was listed in critical condition.
Edwards’ girlfriend and their 4-year-old child, who was in the backseat, did not suffer serious injuries.
Edwards is currently being held without bond.
