A Knotts Island, North Carolina man was recently identified by police in Virginia Beach, Virginia as the victim of a vehicle roll-over on January 5. Twenty-five-year-old Matthew Lee Burnette died of the personal injuries he sustained in that crash.
On the day of the accident, Burnette was the passenger of 25-year-old Virginia Beach resident Allan James Tauchen, according to police. After the truck in which they were riding overturned, police say they charged Tauchen with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence.
According to Virginia Beach police spokeswoman Margie Long, the truck was southbound when it ran off the right side of the road as it was rounding a curve. Tauchen overcorrected, causing the truck to roll over and eject Burnette. The vehicle then landed on top of Burnette.
Police were holding Tauchen without bond and the crash is under investigation, according to police.
