Man Charged After High Point Crash That Killed One, Injured Six

A man police say is responsible for a two-vehicle crash that killed a woman from High Point and caused six others to suffer personal injuries has been charged with DWI, felony death by motor vehicle, and five counts of aggravated serious injury by vehicle.

According to police, Brandon Black was intoxicated when he crossed the center line on East Green Drive at approximately 6 p.m. on January 18 and collided with a car driven by Tamika Burns, killing her and injuring three children.

Black and a passenger in his vehicle were also injured and received transport to High Point Regional Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition as of January 19. Black later turned himself in and was jailed under a $1 million bond. His bond was reduced to $150,000 the following day, but he remained in prison.

Burns’ 7-year-old son and another child in the vehicle were also listed in stable condition as of January 19. A neighbor’s 2-year-old was listed in critical condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
