A 19-year-old man was arrested after a shooting at Westover High School in Fayetteville on March 6 in which a 15-year-old boy suffered personal injuries from a stray bullet that was fired during the fight that broke out.
Police charged 19-year-old Terrance Donnell Johnson Jr. with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm on school property.
According to investigators, Johnson and several others were involved in an argument that began during a fashion show taking place at the school shortly after 10 p.m. The quarreling parties moved outside the building and the argument escalated into a fight in the parking lot.
During the fight, shots were fired, and a stray bullet struck the boy in the foot as he was exiting the high school, according to investigators. He received ambulance transport to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Sheriff’s Deputies revealed that the boy was a ninth-grade student at Westover, but would not release his name.
Police arrested Johnson shortly after the shooting and he was processed in the Cumberland County Detention Center on March 7.
His initial appearance in court was set for March 9.
