Man Beaten By Bystanders After Hitting Pedestrian Near Henderson

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, personal injuries were involved in an incident in which a driver who accidentally struck a pedestrian near Henderson was pulled from his vehicle and severely beaten by bystanders.

According to troopers, Eric Loznicka struck 19-year-old Henderson resident Reuban Wright near Kittrell after Wright stepped in front of Loznicka's vehicle on the night of March 19. No charges were filed against Loznicka.

Witnesses said that a group of bystanders pulled Loznicka from his vehicle, held him down, and hit and kicked him. He received treatment at a nearby hospital.

Wright sustained injuries to his head and leg and received air transport to Duke University Hospital.

Vance County sheriff's deputies said the assault suspects knew each other and had been together earlier at a party.

The incident remains under investigation.
