According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a wreck in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 just north of Exit 71 near Dunn in which personal injuries were suffered when a truck hauling lumber overturned caused the northbound lanes to be closed for about three hours.
Trooper Daniel Edwards said the crash took place shortly before 7 a.m., just north of the Long Branch Road exit.
Edwards said that 53-year-old Forest Mason Mowbray was northbound in a truck registered to Smitty’s Trucking Co. in Newberry, South Carolina when he swerved in order to avoid a collision with a slow-moving vehicle.
Edwards said that Mowbray told him the vehicle was a dump truck that was traveling between 20 and 30 mph and that he wasn’t aware of how slow the vehicle was traveling until he neared it. He reacted by swerving into the left lane.
Edwards said the truck, which was not speeding, overturned and came to rest in the left northbound lane.
Edwards said Mowbray received transport to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital to undergo treatment for minor injuries. Police cited him for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
