Linden Man Killed In Crash

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that a man from Linden suffered fatal personal injuries on the night of March 29 when his truck crashed on Walker Road near Bunnlevel.

Trooper J.B. Harvey said 50-year-old Steffan Lemart Murchison died after the 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck he was driving ran off the road and overturned.

The accident took place near the intersection of Walker Road and Raynor-McLamb Road around 7 p.m.

Murchison was westbound when the truck ran off the left side of the road, veered back across the road, and rolled several times. He was wearing his seat belt, but was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harvey said the truck was traveling at an estimated rate of 70 mph and left 400 feet of skid marks on the road.

According to Harvey, alcohol is considered to have been a factor. He said a strong odor of alcohol was detected inside the truck and Murchison's brother said he had just left a local liquor house.
